ROAR-GUST UNWIND!
Twice every year RLT Productions takes over the Roodepoort Basement Theatre. At the end of the year there’s always our acclaimed summer-celebrating festive variety show and around mid-year we blow into town with something completely different to shake off the winter blues.
ROAR-GUST UNWIND is our 2018 winter-warmer. Not only will you get to enjoy marvellous performances by the cream of the RLT crop, you’ll have a unique opportunity to see other fabulous acts in action. Each year we invite fellow local or out-of-town community theatre companies to share our stage. Previously we’ve had such esteemed guests as the Franklin Players, the Merry Wives, Edenvale Acting & Dramatic Society and Phoenix Rising Drama Academy. This year we’re delighted to introduce West Rand audiences to the tantalizing talent and top-notch teamwork of Benoni-based Protea Stage Productions. Known not only for their full-scale productions of classic musicals such as The Wizard of Oz and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and laugh-a-minute farces like See How They Run and Key for Two, they’re also masters of the art of the pint-size play, skits and comic sketches. And it’s a selection of their finest of these that we’ll be enjoying in August!
RLT, along with frequent collaborators and guest stars, Nadiem Solomon (founder of the Sooffah Comedy Couch and Workplace Improv) and Ryan Whittal (a star of the professional performance groups Improv Express and Starship Improvise), will be helming the second half of the show with a session of hilarious created-on-the-spot improv games in the style of Whose Line is it Anyway? The RLT team will include experienced improv artists Graham Shirley and Oriela van der Walt, a couple of very talented, eager new-comers, and plenty of opportunity for the audience to contribute to the action with outrageous suggestions, their own turn in the spotlight, and the applause that will decide the winner of each game.
