ROODEPOORT GETS ITS OWN PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY FOR POST MATRICS
The Recreation Department of the Roodepoort Municipality, the Roodepoort Theatre and the Roodepoort Business Chamber are all extremely excited about the new institution that will open its doors in the Roodepoort Town Hall during the second term of this year.

They all agreed to support the Westside Academy of Performing Arts so that the youth of the West Rand can enjoy the full benefits of an internationally accredited, four-year diploma course, in musical theatre.

Post Matric students will have the opportunity to study through Trinity College subjects such as singing, dance, acting and a variety of musical instruments.
‘Now our youth do not have to travel or live away from home in order to make their dreams come true. It is right here on their doorstep and of an extremely high and affordable standard that will allow them to go and live their passion internationally ,’ says Ria Vorster, the founder of WAPA.

Disadvantaged students who excel in their auditions will benefit from the business sector when sponsorships will be provided to assist them with their study fees.
The Head of the Recreation Department, Mrs. Vanessa Montanus suggested the Town Hall as a starting point in order for the academy to grow. ‘The Roodepoort Municipality seldom gets recognition when artists are trained at our recreation centers and then continue with their careers overseas. We are now proud to take ownership and to be part of this exciting academy from which our youth will benefit.’

One of the missions of the Roodepoort Theatre is to ensure the future of the arts in the country by actively contributing to youth and child development efforts and to become a central feature of development initiatives in the region. This is why they are willing to provide WAPA with the venue for the upcoming auditions that will take place on the 7th of May this year.
